Our Colloquia
The Institute of Human Development (IHD) hosts weekly colloquia featuring interdisciplinary scholarship and innovation to support thriving across the lifespan. We alternate cutting-edge developmental psychology research presentations with interdisciplinary and cross-sector panels that engage research, policy, and practice experts in human development aligned with our emphasis on promoting thriving across the life course.
Our colloquia meetings are open to all interested in respectful dialogue across disciplines and sectors: students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Colloquia are held Mondays from 12:00pm to 1:30pm in Berkeley Way West, Room 1102.
Fall 2026 Colloquium Series
Our 2026 Fall Colloquium series is entitled “Windows of Opportunity for the Next Century: Research, Practice, and Policy for Children, Youth, Family, and Community Thriving.” This innovative 5-session integrative series focuses on critical windows of opportunity for shaping child-, youth-, family- and community-thriving co-led by Katie Albright, JD, Executive Director of Berkeley’s Equity and Excellence in Early Childhood (E3C)and Dr. Margaret Bridges, Senior Research Scientist and Director of Early Childhood Programs at IHD.
Our series considers:
- How can interdisciplinary, partnered work support children, families, and communities through uncertain times?
- Where are the most consequential windows for shaping outcomes?
- How can research, policy, practice, and financing align to shift trajectories?
- And how can IHD’s legacy and strengths in rigorous, systems-engaged scholarship guide its next century of impact?
By drawing together scholars, practitioners, philanthropists, and community leaders, we aim to seed new collaborations and strengthen a shared vision for child-thriving and equity.
