Rhona Weinstein will do a reading from her new book, “Reaching Higher: The Power of Expectations in Schooling” recently published by Harvard University Press. She will provide an overview of the book which explores where and how expectations become all-powerful. Weinstein’s case studies allow us to hear the voices of children, parents, teachers, principals, and university faculty in their common predicaments in the pursuit of learning. Looking beyond the current preoccupation with high-stakes accountability for test results, “Reaching Higher” shows, in rich descriptions of classrooms and schools that aim to develop rather than select talent, how expectations must change, to bring out the most in every child. Publishers Weekly calls this “an important book for everyone who believes in the historic promise of equal educational opportunity and in the possibility that all children can reach their full learning potential.” Michael Strambler, a Ph.D. student in the Clinical Science Program, will serve as discussant.

Food and Refreshments will be served.
